Christian Author Writer Charles had graduated from high school, and he was interested in a career as a carpenter. He had performed online searches for carpentry schools. However, he had not been able to locate the carpentry school of his dreams. Finally, he decided to talk to the Lord about the situation.

“Dear Lord,” Charles prayed. “You know that I feel that you want me to become a carpenter. I really enjoy working with my hands, and I want to construct things that will be used for your glory.

“I have looked online for directories of carpentry schools. They seem like fine places, but I wanted to ask you about the best way to begin my career.”

Charles waited for a few moments and, getting no immediate response from the Lord, asked Him for protection and guidance for the rest of the day. He then drove to his job as a hamburger cook at a local diner.

For about one year, Charles was consistent in his daily activities. He prayed, read the Bible and flipped burgers. Every day, he asked the Lord for advice about beginning his career as a carpenter. One day, Charles pleaded, “God, I really would like to begin fulfilling my calling as a carpenter. Please show me your direction.”

After what seemed like an eternity, the Lord spoke, “My son, I do want you to work as a carpenter. I want you to travel around the world, helping to construct churches in different countries. Most of your time will be spent helping to build churches in poor nations, but occasionally you‘ll have the opportunity to help construct churches in the more prosperous areas of America.”

“Thank you for speaking to me, Lord!,” Charles said. “I really appreciate it.”

“I always have time for those who believe in me,” the Lord replied. “And you have warmed my heart by your heartfelt petitions before my throne.”

“I do enjoy spending time with you each day,” Charles said. “I know you want to use my life for your honor and glory, and I want my carpentry work to reflect the work you have done in my life.”

“I know that Charles, and in just a few weeks I will be opening a door for you to leave the diner. I am arranging for you to become an apprentice to a Christian carpenter. After working with him for a few years, other doors will begin to open for you. Some of those doors I will open personally for you.”

“And the other doors?”

“Those doors will be built by other carpenters,” chuckled the Lord.
