Character: Living By Love in an Unloved World

The bane of our society is character. From the family unit to the society at large. There is a huge need of men and women of character.
Look at the our world and you see men of talent with great charisma and yet despite their successes, they fail to enjoy these successes owing to lack of character.
The celebrated music star, Micheal Jackson, rocked the whole world with his music talent and ingenuity. His dance moves, charisma and voice was the toast of both young and old.
A young black-American that people never gave a chance to win Grammy upon Grammy and sold more than half a billion copies of records, dazzle the world right from his tender age and brought the world to his feet.
Unfortunately, Micheal was killed or should I say committed suicide as aided by his doctor according to report. He died taking pain reliever and drugs to calm his nerve because he failed to love himself.
How about Amy Winehouse? A pretty young lady who took the world by storm by her musical prowess but died at such a young age and prematurely because she was high on drugs.
There abound lots of charismatic and talented people who have made such a mark in this world. Some may not be as famous as Michael and Amy but right in their little world, they made impact. But, they were never satisfied and fulfilled with their achievement.
The Reason for Unfulfilled Life
At the hub of this people who many had idolized and have patterned their life after but never enjoying live in full is a huge vacuum.
The vacuum is that they never love themselves even though they love to enjoy a fulfilled life. They were ignorant of the fact that great accomplishments and successes does not guarantee fulfillment.
They had great and enviable talents but they lacked the basics of a fulfilled life. They lacked character.
Looking into what Character is
Character is who you are. It is what makes you act the way you do.
If you say a man is temperamental. That is his character you are talking about. When a man deceived others in seeing him as what he really is not. That is his character.
There is nobody who had not live without character. It is man's moral fabric.
In the beginning when God made man, he was made a living soul. That is, man was made of flesh and blood. This blood was oxidized by the air we breathe in.
By this process we can interact with our environment. Not just that, man was given a mind which can identify and make decision about what he interacts with.
Man by the spirit in his mind could think, perceive, choose and make decision.That is how man's character originates.
That bring to fore that character by nature is spiritual. It is invisible and immaterial but is such a powerful thing that shape our lives.
Why do we Lack Character?
It is not that man is void of character. We are all creatures of character. But the true character that would make man live life and live that life to its fullest is what is lacking in man.
That is why a Michael could get drugged. An Amy could live on drugs.
God in the beginning made man mortal and being that could think, rationalize and make his own decision. However, God did not leave man to himself because this ability to make choices is a daunting one.
Knowing man was devoid of knowledge and understanding, God took time to teach and train man in order for man to be thoroughly equipped to make the right and true decision.
Unfortunately, man listened to Satan in that lovely garden of Eden. He followed his suggestions and from that time on, man lived by making his own laws, choices and decision. Thus, becoming a god to himself and others around him.
The thrust of God teachings and training was lost on man. And the thrust was man to know how to love God with all his being and then love others like himself too.
Love the key to character.
In the books of 1 peter 3 vs. 10
"For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:"
"Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it."
The key to good life and peaceful living is love. It is until you love that you can stay away from evil and live no life of self-deception.
Love is from God.This is because that is what His nature is. God is love.
"And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him."
So, love shows that we are of God. And if you are of God, then you will keep His commandments or words.
"But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him."
What is God's word all about?
"Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
The word is the old commandment and this old commandment that has always being is;
"And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment."
"And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these."
"And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. Mark 12 vs. 31-33.
There you have the commandment. Love God and then love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no way you have the love of God in you that you will think of doing things that will either harm or destroy you or others.
It is because there is no love in our hearts that we think the unimaginable and do the absurd.
It is high time we left talking so much about love and yet we have nothing of it in our lives. It by the love of God that we can enjoy life and be fulfilled. And that is true character.
