Journey In His Presence - Issue #1

Christian Column : Devotionals  - Fiction  No

Christian Author Writer I don´t know why or how but I do know that it has been a long journey since my last writing in August of last year. I have been through the valleys and in the high places and I know God has been with me every step of the way along with some great Christian sisters. I have gone through many changes, as a butterfly does. My relationship with Jesus has deepened and still has more room for growth. I am excited about this new journey and I pray that as we share it together, God will show us amazing things and that we will feel His presence as we have never felt it before.

God has placed in my heart that this column will be strong on truth and that His Word is the final answer. So I encourage you to research the Scriptures yourself and to e-mail me with your comments. With all this said let us take a journey with our Lord-one we will never forget, one that won´t be easy, but one filled with His joy and His peace.

During my studies this week, several questions popped up. But, let me back up one step first. I have become accustomed to asking God where He wants me to meditate on His Word. Each day is a new adventure and brings about different issues. As I asked the Lord where He wanted me to start, He spoke to me “Habakkuk”. There are many points in Habakkuk that the Lord was showing me.

First, if you didn´t already know, Habakkuk was an Old Testament prophet and his name means “Embrace”. Either that he was “embraced by God” or “embracing others.” The Book of Habakkuk is the account of Habakkuk´s spiritual journey and how he went from doubt to worship. Habakkuk also was not afraid to ask God the “Why” questions.

Habakkuk questions God as to why He doesn´t do something to help those that are being violated and oppressed. God answers that He will use the Chaldeans, a wicked people, to seize power from the wicked Israelites. Then Habakkuk asks God why He uses wicked men to accomplish this goal. Habakkuk waits patiently on the Lord for Him to answer,

“I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer when I am corrected.” (Habakkuk 2:1) “Then the Lord answered me and said: ‘Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.´” (Habakkuk 2:2-3)

Now I don´t know about you, but that is quite a lot to chew on. Here you have a prophet, Habakkuk, and he's asking God the tough questions. Habakkuk sure has no fear and has a lot of faith in God and His answers. God gives him an answer and Habakkuk asks why God would do it that way. Then Habakkuk waits on the Lord to answer him. God answers Habakkuk and tells him to wait patiently, to trust Him and have faith.

“Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him; but the just shall live by his faith.” (Habakkuk 2:4)

Here´s where I think that we as Christians have a hard time with understanding God´s ways. We live in a hurry up world, get it now, why wait for anything. But as Christians aren´t we supposed to be in the world not of it. Does getting what you want when you want build your faith in God? Or does it just make God our genie in our time of need? Do we wait on the Lord or put Him on our timetable? God does promise that justice will be done-on His time-not ours.

Are you in a hurry or are you ready to patiently wait on God? Will you live by faith?

Until next time:

The Lord bless you and keep you;

The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you;

The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.

Numbers 6:24-26
