Christian Author Writer We all get weary and time to time we do feel heavy laden with our cares. With the current economic circumstances in the US and ministering on a global level I do get weary and discouraged sometimes because I hear of my Christians all over the globe suffering terribly because of the global economic situation is quite dire. But as Christians we can take heart because our Lord Jesus Christ exhorts us to turn to Him for relief when we are heavy laden and burdened with cares as shown by the following scripture:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus Christ is our Rest, and we should repose ourselves in Him, because He explicitly invites us to rest in Him, when we are heavy laden and are weary from the burdens of our lives, our sins, and from emotional, mental and other burdens that others have imposed on us. When we are overwhelmed by the weight of our burdens and cannot press on any further; that is when we must call out to Christ because not only will He give us Rest, He will bear our burdens for us! Christ promised to give us rest; because He is our Noah, whose name means rest. Jesus Christ will give rest to our burdened and weary souls; rest from the terrors of sin, in a well-grounded peace of conscience; and rest from the power and condemnation of sin. Christ’s rest is the perfect rest that is reserved for His people which begun in grace, and is perfected in glory. We must come to Jesus Christ as our Ruler, and submit ourselves to Him. The rest Christ promises is a release from the drudgery of sin, because He has a yoke for our necks, and a crown for our heads, and He expects us to take our appointed yoke upon our shoulders and bear it with grace and alacrity.

A couple months ago, I was really weary and was praying and communing with the Lord and I beseeched Him to remove the cross that I was bearing at the time, because it was crushing me under its ridiculous weight. But as I prayed for the absolute removal of my cross, the Lord spoke very softly and tenderly to me saying:

“Child, you cannot have a crown without a cross. To lay hold of your crown up yonder, you must bear your cross.”

Even though, I was weary and bruised, I was comforted! Because I knew that Christ was cognizant of my situation and was in total control of what was happening to me. Perhaps it may seem odd to you that the Lord will call upon us when we are weary and heavy laden, to take a yoke (Cross) upon ourselves, because it may appear as that He was adding affliction to the afflicted. But as servants of the highest King we must bear our crosses; because He bore His cross first before we were appointed ours! We ought to remember that no matter how heavy our cross may feel; the cross that Christ bore before us was much heavier and although we are called to bear our own crosses; we will never bear them alone!

Christ is our Burden Bearer who will carry the heavy end of our crosses for us. To take Christ's yoke upon us is to obey His Gospel and submit ourselves to Him. Christ's yoke is not meant to hurt us or to enable us to lose our faith; it is sweet and pleasant; there is nothing in it to gall our yielding necks, or to hurt us, but, on the contrary, it serves to refresh us because it is lined with His agape love. The yoke Christ appoints to us may be a little hard at first, but through the love of God and the hope of heaven our yoke will become easy. Christ's yoke allows us to reconcile our difficulties, which will help us manage our discouragements, cling to our hope by our faith in Him and press onto the mark of the prize; for although we may lose for Christ, we shall not lose by Him.

Therefore Beloved, whatever burdens you are bearing right now, be encouraged because Christ is your Burden Bearer who will not only bear your burdens for your, but He will carry you upon His shoulders when you are buckling under the weight of them. I pray that the Lord bless and keep you, and be gracious to you, cause His face to shine upon you and give you peace. Be blessed and encouraged.
